Day 14: Van Gogh, Monet, D-Day

Friday

20 September 2013

Today was a bus day with some memorable stops. First we drove through the town that Van Gogh spent his final days. We also saw his grave and headstone.

Then we went to Monet's gardens and house. I love Monet and fell in love with the place he painted.

One of the churches Van Gogh painted.

Monet's water garden.

Monet's house and regular garden.
Me at Monet's favorite spot.

Then we went to the beaches at Normandy. That was a very sobering experience and I was so grateful for the people who gave their lives.

  1. Your mother and I got to see an exhibition of Monet's water lilly paintings at the Albright-Knox in New York (It's in Buffalo, but saying " we saw Monet at a gallery in New York" sounds classier than saying "we saw Monet at a gallery in Buffalo...after which, we got a bucket of chicken wings.")

I can honestly say that it was one of the ten most spiritual experiences of my life. Absolutely transcendent. You are so lucky to have seen this!

    1. One professor has 5 kids. They are 15 (girl), 13 (boy), 10 (girl), 8 (boy), and 5 (boy). The other professor has 4 kids. 13 (girl), 10 (girl), 8 (boy), and 5 (boy). My professors live next store to each other in Utah so their kids were already friends before we came here!
